Today, I saw a video on YouTube of a young woman crying because her pet jumping spider, a tiny, beautiful creature who wandered into her van-life story world, died after a year of living closely with her and her partner.
She obviously loved this tiny creature, whose reciprocal fascination, inquisitiveness, and mutual respect enriched not just her life, but the lives of the thousands of others who witnessed, followed, engaged, and felt in their hearts too that something extraordinary was happening.
And I’ve seen so many videos now of tiny birds, squirrels, in fact a myriad of other animals and critters that have come into the lives of humans to touch them deeper than ever, and then depart their comparatively short lives together, leaving behind grief, profound love, and a human companion changed, transformed by the experience.
I’ve seen people remarkably find soulmates and a love they’ve never known in the most unlikely places and creatures. But most importantly, I’ve seen their audience, thousands of them, touched and changed by these stories too: stories that speak so plainly and perfectly to us of a much bigger story unfolding.
A new human potential is showing itself in wonder before our very eyes.
And so, if you’re thinking what it’s like, this next evolutionary step along our miracle journey through time into timelessness, it’s like this:
A profound love rises to the surface and embraces all living things. It’s a deep compassion for people and animals who are struggling, suffering, or simply having a hard time, and so the massive inequality gap of today’s humanity closes over, until there is none. A shift in priorities moves progressively away from selfish pursuits, no longer needing to endlessly feed the empty void of greed and self-interest — behaviours that were once shaped by misperception.
And let us not forget the people crying at the loss of a tiny critter, a spider, a mouse, or a bird who had reciprocated love, gentleness, and respect toward another living being. Encounters which removed a seemingly vast chasm of differences that we had assigned to the value of their lives in our world, until there were no differences.
People become humble, transparent, and honest. With that, the need to micromanage societies begins to disappear, and with it, the harsh sting of betrayal and disappointment begins to dissolve, replaced by fairness, transparency, and trust. And the interconnection of the underlying communication in consciousness, between all of life, harmonises and aligns, quietly delivering people to their place, where they fit, naturally drawn to what brings them joy and fulfilment. And so, all things get done, whatever is necessary is attended to and taken care of, with far less need for the rigid structures we once depended on.
Our busyness, the rushing from here to there, the traffic jams and the anxiety, the burnout and illness, the frantic race to get somewhere and be someone, fades into peace and rest. A slower pace emerges, with more time for oneself, self-care, self-nurturing, and activities that bring heartfelt, true fulfilment into a thriving and pristine world.
But above all, there comes the promise and the realisation that greed and corruption, conflict, poverty, and pollution are to become distant, forgotten experiences of a humanity lost momentarily in its own incomplete understanding, but found again, magnificently, irrefutably, and eternally at home in itself.
What will it be like? It will be like this. And there are signs of it happening, if you care to look. The wonder of it should remove any fear you might have about helping birth that new humanity into existence.
